Synopsis:

The past meets the present as we travel through time to meet some old friends and make some new ones. In Cloverport, we meet some residents who have recreated Kentucky's past by building a magnificent reminder of days gone by. On a return visit to Bardstown, we see a landmark that provides a good meal and place the weary traveler can rest. Next, we journey again to New Haven and experience the thrill of a real steam locomotive as it chugs through the countryside. Finally, it’s back to Bowling Green for a celebration of America’s original sports car.

Coming up on MainStreet, we encounter some people who are dedicated to entertaining others. In Bowling Green, meet a clown who makes magical experiences for young and old. In Covington, we find a small businessman who’s a philosopher and a magician--a combination that makes him quite the entertainer. Travel to Windyville, Kentucky, and visit a place that keeps southern hospitality alive by offering both food and music. In Warren County, puppies cheer up people in a retirement home. Then, children get to entertain the adults during the Lone Star Rodeo. This month, get ready to smile and cheer on some entertainers on MainStreet

You know the art of entertaining goes back to our very beginning. It is rooted in our human need to express ourselves and our desire to leave a record of our time here. On this edition of MainStreet, we will meet some Kentuckians who are leaving their mark by entertaining the rest of us.

Segment I:

In the world of entertainment, few characters are as fun as the clown. For this month’s cover story, we meet a Bowling Green man who makes magical experiences for young and old alike as a one of a kind entertainer.

Artie Kidwell is a small businessperson, a philosopher and a magician a combination that makes him quite the entertainer.

Segment II:

Music and food are two forms of entertainment that we all enjoy. Travel now to Wendyville Kentucky and visit a place that keeps alive Southern Hospitality by offering food and music.

Segment III:

Animals, especially puppies, have the unique gift of giving affection with no questions asked. They will fall asleep in your lap regardless of your age, income, where you live or what kind of car you drive. Come along now as we meet a puppy that was born to entertain.

Segment IV:

Good family entertainment can be found at any rodeo but in this one it is the children that get to entertain the adults.

Join us for May’s edition of MainStreet, where we’ll meet some people, who are in touch with nature. We’ll travel the Doe Run Inn, which is well-known for its quite atmosphere and great chicken and country ham. Next, we’ll journey to the Bernheim Forest and Arboretum to learn the purpose and enjoy the beauty of the place. Then we’ll meet a man who knows his way around the farm, and we’ll visit a successful business that literally grew out of a Warren County man’s hobby. Finally, come along as a chance encounter allows us to see how to make a Shaker broom.

C. David Jones is a painter who uses walls as his canvas. On this month’s cover story, producer Tim Bishoff introduces us to a Kentucky muralist.

Dance has always been an integral part of American history; each era brings a new style to life. In this era of rap, hip hop and rock, jazz dance is almost a lost art. But in a program sponsored by Western Kentucky University is designed to keep the tradition of jazz dance alive.

Craft making is a Kentucky tradition, but making a living at it can be a rather difficult thing. Not only does one have to learn to manage a business as well as continue to create a fine product but marketing the work is also difficult. Here in Mammoth Cave National Park visitors get to explore the longest cave system in the world. One of the many cave tours takes us on a difficult but rewarding journey into earth.

Segment III:

We’ve seen adventures on the water and underground, now we will take an adventure into the wild blue yonder. Near Bardstown KY there is a group of skydivers that have opened up the world of sky diving to almost everyone. Tandem skydiving in particular, attaches a student to the front harness of the instructor throughout the jump from exit to landing; this allows the adventurer to experience freedom that normally only the birds and skydivers enjoy.
